Brand identity design
(Brand identity · Netherlands · Worldwide)
A brand is more than a logo. It is how you look, how you sound, and how that feels the same everywhere.
I’m Simon Dam, designer and art director with a studio in Enschede, the Netherlands. I build brand identities for companies, makers and organisations, at home and abroad. No house style: the idea decides what a brand should look and feel like.
It starts with a conversation about who you are, who it’s for and why. That becomes an idea, and the idea becomes a logo, type, colour, imagery and the rules to use them well, from a business card and packaging to the website, a truck or a building.
Most of the time it’s just me. When a project asks for more, I bring in people from my network: cinematographers for film and photography, a web designer for the site.

- In the studio or online: what is needed, and why.

Work
All work → (4)01Do you work with clients outside the Netherlands?
Yes. The studio is in Enschede, and I work in English and Dutch, remotely or on site.
02What does a brand identity cost?
It depends on what you need: a logo alone is different from a full identity with packaging and a website. After a first conversation you get a proposal with a clear price.
03How long does a brand identity take?
A logo with the basics around it usually takes a few weeks. A full identity with packaging or a website takes longer. The proposal comes with a timeline, and I stick to it.
04Are you a studio or a freelancer?
A bit of both: an Art + Design Studio with one person at the wheel. You talk to the person who actually makes the work, no account manager in between. When a project needs more, I bring in people from my network.
05Do you work with agencies?
Yes. I regularly join agency projects as a designer or art director, with Truus, Slaps and Supa Dupa among others. An extra pair of hands that gets going straight away, no onboarding needed.
06Is a brand identity worth it for a small business?
Especially then. A lot of my clients are small businesses that want to grow. I look at what you really need now, and build it so the brand can grow with you.
07Can you also design the website?
Yes, design and build. For larger sites I work with web designers from my network.
08Do you use AI?
Yes, as a tool: for sketches, mockups and imagery that would otherwise be out of budget. The idea is mine, though. AI can make a thousand pictures, it just doesn’t know why your company exists.
09Does Bram help?
Officially, no. He’s a wire-haired dachshund who sleeps under my desk and reviews every concept by snoring through it. I take that as approval.
10Why does your work look this good?
Mostly stubbornness. I don’t stop until it’s right, even when nobody else can see the difference anymore. Annoying for me, nice for you.
